General Art Classes:
Please see Beginner Art Supplies list
Each student works from a reference picture of their choice, either from the wide selection available at the studio or from their own collection. Each new student is given an introductory lesson explaining how to get started on their piece and some of the techniques that will be used. The students then work on their own pieces independently. During the class, the instructor will work with each student individually, going over their piece with them on a one-on-one basis, giving them suggestions, answering questions, and showing techniques appropriate to their piece. The General Art Classes offer instruction in a variety of mediums including pencil, pastel, pencil crayon, acrylic, watercolor and scratchboard. Each semester contains 15 one-hour or two-hour classes. Appropriate for ages 6 to adult.
Cartooning for Children
Please see BeginnerSupply List.
Students will learn to develop their own cartoon characters. Weekly lessons will help students to give their characters emotions, movement, personality, and possibly a story. Teaching methods will include demos, examples, and specific exercises along with some free time each class for students to apply what they have learned to their own work. Although there will be a theme or structure to each class, students will be encouraged to experiment and apply their own creativity. Each semester contains 15 one-hour classes. Appropriate for ages 8 & up.
Adult Painting Class:
Please see Adult Painting Supplies list
A class supply of paints will be available to be used during class time.
The supply cost fee will be finalized before class begins.
Students will study color theory as well as learn about the properties, techniques and necessary materials needed for oil, acrylic and watercolor paints. Students will experiment with each painting medium through painting exercises and painting studies, culminating in a final painting in their choice of medium. Each semester contains 12 two-hour classes. Appropriate for older teens and adults.
Preschool/Kindergarten Class :
Students will be introduced to the elements of art: line, shape, value, color and texture, through drawing, painting, collage and other activities. The elements of art are considered the “building blocks” of art. By showing the students how to see and use these elements, children will have a better understanding of how art is created by themselves and others. Each semester contains12 one-hour classes. Appropriate for Preschool & Kindergarten aged children. Please see schedule for class times & costs. Students to bring along a long-sleeved paint shirt, HB pencil, white eraser, small sketchbook (no larger than 8x10)
Primary Art Class:
Does your little artist love to experiment with art? Drawing, painting, collage, crafts? Go beyond the school classroom art. Students will learn about famous artists, styles & periods in art history from stories written for young children about the artists. Each child will then create their own masterpiece based on the style of the Masters! Each semester contains12 one-hour classes. Appropriate for children in Grades 1-3. Please see schedule for class times & costs.
