Gail Adams School of Art has been offering instruction to children and adults of all ages and ability levels for over 25 years. The General Art Classes offer instruction in a variety of mediums including pencil, pastel, pencil crayon, acrylic, watercolor and scratchboard. We also offer a Cartooning class for children. General Art Classes:
Each student works from a reference picture of their choice, either from the wide selection available at the studio or from their own collection. Each new student is given an introductory lesson explaining how to get started on their piece and some of the techniques that will be used. The students then work on their own pieces independently. During the class, the instructor will work with each student individually, going over their piece with them on a one-on-one basis, giving them suggestions, answering questions, and showing techniques appropriate to their piece. The General Art Classes offer instruction in a variety of mediums including pencil, pastel, pencil crayon, acrylic, watercolor and scratchboard. Each semester contains 15 one-hour or two-hour classes. Appropriate for ages 6 to adult.
Cartooning:
Students will learn to develop their own cartoon characters. Weekly lessons will help students to give their characters emotions, movement, personality, and possibly a story. Teaching methods will include demos, examples, and specific exercises along with some free time each class for students to apply what they have learned to their own work. Although there will be a theme or structure to each class, students will be encouraged to experiment and apply their own creativity. Each semester contains 15 one-hour classes. Appropriate for ages 8 & up.

Weekly classes are available during the regular school year. Classes generally begin in September and February. Please see semester schedule for available days, times and costs.
Enrollment is limited to 15 students per class (with a minimum of 5). Registration may be done in person, over the phone, or on-line at our website. Any missed classes in the General Art program may be made up at any time during the same semester. Make-up classes will not be carried over to the next semester. We may take registration throughout the semester based on class availability for General classes only. The cost would be pro-rated based on the number of classes remaining in the semester. Because of the progression of lessons within the Cartooning classes, enrollment may not be accepted after the first day of class and make-up classes will not be possible.
Summer camps are available in July and August offering a variety of programs. Drama/Art camps (in association with Off Broadway Theatrical Productions) are offered during February break, Easter break & summer. Each camp runs for five days from Monday through Friday. Workshops are occasionally offered throughout the year. Please ask for dates that are offered.
