Christmas is right around the corner! Jessie, Eva, Vera, and I hope that you all have a wonderful holiday season.
We are taking a few weeks off for Christmas this year (please check the schedule) so all of our teachers can enjoy some well deserved family time during this very busy season and hope this will help you and your families do the same. But please remember that we still have three or four classes after Christmas in this semester for some of the classes (the Pre/K & Primary classes are now finished for the semester).
We have BIG changes on the horizon for the 2nd semester of classes. First of all, here is what is staying the same: General art classes that are being held in Martensville & Warman (taught by Eva) have been a huge success & the next semester of classes will be beginning in March. Vera will still be offering the Preschool/Kindergarten & Primary Art classes on Saturday mornings. This fall the numbers were slightly smaller than we would have liked so if your child enjoyed the class, please share that information with friends, family or their school classmates so that we can continue to offer it . We believe that this program is beneficial to young children to improve their sighting ability & eye hand coordination which will not only improve their artist ability but their over-all success in school as well. We also believe that their success in the art classroom will help to build their confidence & self-esteem! I (Carey-Lynn), will still be teaching my regular General art classes Monday-Thursday to both children & adults.
Now for the changees: unfortunately Jessie Edwards will no longer be teaching art classes. She has decided to move in a different direction with her career. Although she will no longer be teaching I know she will be successful in whatever she chooses to do. She has been instrumental in many bringing new ideas & classes to our studio & I am sad to see her go but I am also so excited to tell you what is coming up next!
Theresa Butterfield will be teaching the Saturday General art classes. Theresa has a strong background in a variety of mediums including pencil, pastels, watercolors, acrylics & oils. She has taken several of the specialized art classes including the Head Drawing, Painting with Watersoluble Oils & Portrait Painting, the General art classes from myself as well as prior classes from other instructors. I know that she will be a strong asset to our teaching staff.
I have also recently brought on two new instructors who are specialists in their field. Nathen Wahl will be teaching the Children's Cartooning classes in the 2nd semester. Nathen is a comic book artist & has worked on the stop-motion television program Wapos Bay. He has also worked as a storyboard artist with an animation studio as well as for a live action film! He will be reworking the Intro to Cartooning program & redeveloping the Advanced Cartooning program to come at it from more of a comic book approach. I am so excited to actually have an instructor who is a pro at this stuff to be teaching the kids this class! So be prepared for some exciting changes!
I am also very excited to welcome guest artist Craig Berry. Craig has trained at the Academy of Realist Art in Toronto & the Grand Central Academy of Art in New York as well as apprenticed under renowned artist, Scott Owles. Craig will be bringing classes never before offered anywhere in Saskatchewan, based on traditional classical techniques used by Master artists throughout history. He will be offering adult art classes including Introduction to Classical Drawing; Colour Theory Level 1 & 2; and Intro to Oil (Old Master Copy).
As a way to introduce you to the new instructors & the new programs that we are offering, we will be hosting an Open House on Sunday, January 15 at the studio from 1-4 p.m. The instructors will be in attendance to explain more about their programs & to show you samples of their artwork & some possible class projects. Please bring yourself, your children & any friends who may also be interested in the programs.
The second semester of classes will start the week of January 30, 2012 (there won't be any time off between semesters). Updated info about the programs with class days, times, costs & starts dates is being sent home along with this newsletter. The dates for the remainder of the semester will be finalized & available on our website & handed out to the students on the first day of classes.
Also attached, please find a personalized receipt for art classes that can be submitted for tax purposes. Please fill in the "child's year of birth" section as I do not keep this information on file. If the receipt has been issued to the wrong person, or should be split between two different people (eg, divorced parents paying separately) please let me know, return the issued receipt & I can reissue a replacement. Please make sure to keep this receipt as duplicates will not be issued.
If you or your child will be registering for the 2nd Semester of classes, please let us know as soon as possible. A non-refundable deposit is due at the time of registration in order to hold a spot. Our present students are always given registration information first to allow for early registration, however, a spot will not be held until you tell us to do so! This semester has been very busy with several of the classes being full. We would expect the next semester to be busy as well, so if there is a particular day or time that you need, please register as early as possible. Please do not assume that a spot will automatically be held for you or your child. This misunderstanding has resulted in a few disappointed students in the past & we would hate for this to happen again! We advertise regularly in the Leisure Guide as well as various community newsletters, and we usually have a list of students interested in registering for the upcoming semesters.
Have a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year!
